When John says, "Behold the Lamb of God!" he means more than just wondering or considering. "Looking" is used in Scripture for faith: "Look unto me, and be ye saved." Therefore we sing—

There is life for a look at the crucified One, - There is life at this moment for thee!

This is He on behalf of whom I said, After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’ (John 1:30)

John here is confirming the Lamb’s origin and existent He was before creation, He was the very Word,

He says in v14 – And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of he only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

In verse 15 - John  testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’”

We need to take our eyes off everything else, and behold the Lamb of God! We need not see anything else; nothing else is worth seeing; but to behold Him, and  trust Him, Trust Him  "Look and live.

We cannot comprehend in our minds how Our LORD could be the Lamb of God which takes away our sins; and that He can both touch us in our weakness, and then  touch the very Godhead itself in its all-sufficiency.

How was the Lamb of God first seen in this respect?  We see the first instance of this in Genesis. It was the case of the lamb for one man, brought by one man for himself, and on his own behalf

In Genesis Chapter 4:2-4

Cain and Abel .brought their offerings before the LORD.  Abel, who was a shepherd, brought of the firstlings, of his flock, that is, a lamb, and he brought this lamb for himself, and on his own account, that he might be accepted by God, and that he might present to God an offering well-pleasing in His sight. Cain brought of the fruit of the ground as an offering to God.

The Scriptures remind us that, -

"By faith Abel offered unto to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain," and he was accepted because he brought a more excellent sacrifice. The one sacrifice was bloodless, the fruit of the ground, the other was typical of Christ, the Lamb of God, and was therefore accepted

In our un-regenerated state we cannot have communion with God because we are guilty and sinful, but how can we draw near to God and how can we have communion with God? We cannot come through our own fruits of your own growing, but with the sacrifice of blood, with Christ the holy Victim, the spotless Lamb of God, and so coming, whoever you may be, you shall be acceptable before God by faith.

The answer lies in these verses under consideration here is the answer. Take the Lord Jesus Christ to be yours by faith, and bring Him to God “To behold the Lamb of God”

The Father never repelled the Son, or those who are clothed with the Son's righteousness, or who pleaded the Son's merit, as Abel came, not with fruits of his own growing, but with the sacrifice of blood, so we can only claim with Christ the holy the spotless Lamb of God, and so coming, be acceptable before God by faith. The Scriptures remind in Roman’s Chapter 8:1-2

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
